Properly looking forward to the World Champs now after The Players Championship over the weekend. Taylor now back in the winners circle with new players wining major tournaments throughout the year, It's got the potential to be the best WC yet.

Hard to know. Winstanley is the one to avoid outside the top 32.

I think it comes down to about four players who can win it: Taylor, van Gerwen, Lewis & Whitlock.

I'd be surprised if anyone outside of that won it, I really would be. Barney, King, Anderson & even Wade playing better of late, but this is a different ball game. Hamilton should do well again.

That might seem obvious, but for van Gerwen & Lewis it will suit them to return to the set format.

Gary Anderson is now outside the top four after the weekend, he has 100k to defend as a 2011 finalist. Returning to some form, but he's got a huge tournament ahead. Unless he wins it, he's relying on a wildcard for the Premier League.

    A few good ties there.

Barney v Michael Smith, Webster v Ian White, John Part v Joe Cullen, Baxter v Priestley, Hamilton v Richardson, Wright v Monk, Jenkins v Brown & Huybrechts v Rand should be very good games as well. Now to hunt down some value. As usual, seeds will fall.

Daryl Gurney should do better than our past few representatives. Not that treacherous a tie in the first round by any means either if he gets through the prelim.

Looking forward to this starting tonight, the early rounds with the best of 5 sets always throw up a few shocks so are well worth watching. Though i think its just the preliminary round tonight or is it?

edit. I see its one preliminary round match & 5 first round games with Lewis & Painter playing their matches tonight, nice one!

There'll be one prelim game a night (and for tomorrow afternoon when there is a session on) for the duration of the first round.

Can't recall the last time there wasn't a shock result on the opening night........

A few players are just going to have to be inspired by playing in the World Championships this year.

Huybrechts' father suddenly died in the past few days. He isn't scheduled to play until next Thursday.

Solid if unspectacular opening night. Welge losing was an upset before anything else is said

Lewis strangely had a slightly better opening night than he did last year. Vos really should have taken that third set though. Lewis will improve, whether he wins the section, never mind the title remains to be seen.

Thorn done what he had to. Caris was returning to the scene of the crime for him pretty much.

Good performance from Nicholson, but Stompe has had a dreadful year. Good little clash there in the next round with Thornton & Nicholson.

Solid start from Painter. Didn't take his opponent lightly and got the win.

Tomorrow is a long one. Double session.

Vos was unlucky, nerves got to him. Lewis had a bit of a scare last year if I remember right in the first round.
Stompe is a great character but his throwing was piss poor last night.

Barney laid down the first marker last night with his win. 108 average. In a very tough section, so to say he'll be in the last two is a long way off accurate at this moment.

Anderson played pretty well, he fucking had to! Haavisto was more than a handful.

Delighted Gurney won on Saturday. Whether he goes any further remains to be seen.

Some good games tonight - Wright v Monk, Wade v Hudson, Webster v White.
