La Liga and all things Spanish

We have one for Germany and Italy so why not for Spain.

Mirandes knocked Espanyol out of the Copa Del Rey Last night, always good to see a smaller club in the later stages of cup competitions. Bilbao or Mallorca in the semis for them, they've knocked Villareal and Racing Santander out already so they'll probably fancy their chances.

Must be amazing to be a fan of a third tier club beat some of the top dogs of Spain. Just a shame this will be overshadowed by the bellend classico with players surronding the ref, more dives than there will be at the olympics and a probable red card that will be discussed on SSN for the next week

Funny you should mention that ;) Dreadful decision btw. Ramos has now been sent off more often than anyone else in Madrid's history. Tonight he received his 13th red card. Mark Dennis only got sent off 12 times in his career and he makes Pepe look like a saint ;)

First time in years Barcelona were torn apart in their own backyard for 90 minutes, but the officials as ever were there to bail them out. 1 good goal disallowed, 8 players booked, 1 sent off this time. When that failed, the tried and trusted feigning injury tricks went into full swing.

But the gap in quality between the sides is closing since Real went there in 2010.

You obviously ignored the Liga match in Madrid there only 6 weeks ago.

Do you honestly believe that goal wasnt a free out?

Clear free out. The commentator with Gerry Armstrong sounded embarrased by Armstrong saying it wasn't a free out.

I definitely dont think that it shouldve been a free out. Alves threw himself to the ground with the slightest of touches. Real were definitely the better team last night. Great match all the same

I used to enjoy Armstrong's take on all things Spanish but he's starting to grind my gears this season. He was almost willing Madrid to get the 1st one last night! Of course in these games players are going to accentuate their falls (not excusing that by that way) but Ramos clearly dragged on his arm rendering him less able to challenge for the cross. As you correctly said, clear free out.

Mourinho waiting for the referee. The football equivalent of being bundled into the boot of a mid 90s reg Toyota Corolla after a gah match, perhaps

Dont know why Mourinho continues to play Pepe, Sergio Raos and C. Ronaldo in these games when they clearly weaken his side.

And you obviously ignored how Real were the better side then, until Real scored an own goal for them.

It was all going so well until you lumped Cristiano Ronaldo in with the other two. 89 goals in 82 games obviously suggests he's one of the weak links in the Real side ;)

Agree that Ramos was unlucky to be sent off in the last 2 minutes but what about Diarra in the first half. The ref was certainly on Madrid's side on that one.
Thought it was a great game myself. Could have gone either way right up until the final whistle. Madrid have improved hugely but Jose has the players so hyped up that they are not doing themselves justice in the BIG games against Barcalona.

It's on Sky and most forum regulars don't bother with it.

He is always absolutely terrible against Barca. Seems so obsessed with trying to outshine Messi that he becomes even more selfish than usual and after he does fuck all in the first half hour or so he just gives up and stands around.

Its all well and good knocking in 2 or 3 against Osasuna in a 5-0 win but when the chips are down in big games, he hast been there.

I do enjoy Jose's suffering,I still don't know how Real managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The song the Barcelona fans sing sounds a bit like a hymn rather than a football chant, maybe we could go down the same road, sadly we are just a bit late with the Lords my Shepard.

He did outshine Messi in the tie, 2-0. He also won the cup for Real against them last year.

Very enjoyable match on Wednesday. Real very unlucky to be 2 nil down at half time. Thaught Ozil had a very good game for Real.
