Borussia Dortmund fans to boycott Hamburg clash over ticket prices

The club's supporters are unhappy with the fact that general admission for the game at the Volksparkstadion is
19, while seats range from between €36 and €84

    By Mark Doyle

Borussia Dortmund fans have revealed that they intend to boycott this weekend's Bundesliga clash with Hamburg.

The club's supporters are unhappy with the fact that general admission for the game at the Volksparkstadion is €19, while seats range from between €36 and €84.

Consequently, Dortmund followers have teamed up with fans from other clubs to form a group called 'No.20 - football must be affordable', with the aim of reducing ticket prices.

Marc Quambusch, spokesman for the group, told Bild: "It is our intention to, with low admission prices, maintain the permeability and future viability of football.

“Everyone, including the socially disadvantaged, should be able to afford football tickets. If football is just for business, it is dead."

Hamburg supporters group 'Chosen Few' have promised to back the protest by remaining silent for the first 10 minutes of the second half.

The boycott is certainly not without precedent as Dortmund fans also refused to attend the Ruhr derby with Schalke in the autumn of 2010 for the same reason.

In addition, Schalke supporters recently revealed that they will refuse to travel to the Czech Republic for their club's Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen because of their unhappiness over ticket prices for the game.

Bayern fans furious as ‘spectacular’ marketing stunt backfires

    By James Whelan
    Friday, January 27, 2012

Bayern Munich claimed "a spectacular name" would be signing for the club yesterday, but provoked an angry response from their fans when it was found to be a marketing stunt.

The German club attempted to gain interest in their new marketing tool — an app — by creating a huge wave of speculation over who the new signing would be.

Fans were invited to log on and watch the deal unfurl on their official Facebook page, but were let down when general manager Christian Nerlinger revealed an envelope with the users’ own Facebook profile pictures on it. In addition, the users also saw their own name appear on the back of a Bayern Munich number eight shirt.

"Dear fans, you probably already noticed, that we did not sign a new player," a statement on Bayern Munich’s Facebook page read.

"This app is for our fans to show the importance of you for our club.

"Every single FCB fan is the ‘spectacular new signing,’ our 12th man!", announced the club on their official site later. However, within minutes, an angry backlash from Bayern fans appeared as over 5,000 users (and climbing) accused the club of wasting their time and getting their hopes up for nothing.

Bayern are still believed to be interested in bringing in a striker in January, with Dortmund’s Polish international Robert Lewandowski top of their wishlist.

Good win all right, haven't really been keeping up with the Bundesliga this season but I see Bremen are doing decent, bit of a gap between top 4 and the rest though, Monchengladbach doing incredible!

Oh yes it was! Really good and intense game, i was surprised how professional our really young team played(half of the team is players no older then 21, just pizarro, wiese and fritz left from the old squad). Still also we needed some help from the pathetic Hamburg defense:

    That is actually pretty accurate!

Sadly my team won't be in the bundesliga until next season (hopefully!)

Booked a trip over to hopefully get to see Bremen and Pauli on the last day of the year, although I'd be more of a SC Freiburg man myself, having been a regular for a spell.

Anyone got any good tips on Bremen, as I have a plan for Hamburg but know feck all about Bremen?

Greuther Fürth, the German Hoops, lost tonight in the semi-final of the cup at home to Dortmund.

The game ended scoreless and went to extra time.

Just before extra time finished, in the 118th minute, Greuther Fürth subbed their goalkeeper in order to bring a keeper on better suited to the impending penalty shoot-out.

But in the 120th minute, Dortmund fired in a shot, which hit the post, bounced off the new goalkeeper's back – and rolled over the line.

    Game over: 0 - 1

What gobshite subs his own goalkeeper 2 minutes from the end of extra time in any game?

In a penalty shoot out, all the pressure is on the takers, they're expected to score. Eventually someone will miss and someone will score, and that will be the end of it. It's a lottery. Let it play itself out.

Another dumb phrase used in football and coined by the press. If you've a quality shot-stopper on hand, you're already a leg up in a shoot out. Has that not already been self-evident, twice, this season?

Its no coincidence that some keepers have much better records at saving penalties than others. Off the top of my head I remember the Portugal keeper Ricardo having a great record at them. And Shay Given is the opposite, I remember the penos v Spain, the taker hadnt even left the halfway line and he was already diving!
You really do look more and more clueless with every post mypost, seriously

All the pressure is on the taker, he can decide where to put the ball, and is expected to score everytime. Keepers can only guess and hope for the best. Penalties are levellers and lotteries.

Incorrect. The taker can pick a corner all he wants, but it's quite evident that the likes of Oscar Jannson does not guess. His technique is to wait a split second, and go for the correct side. Whether he's late or not is another matter. This of course, is dissimilar the likes of Chelsea's Cech for example in last nights game v. City. He had already gone and Aguero was watching him. He simply stuck it into the opposite corner. It's all about technique on both sides of the ball. You balls that up, and you're fooked. It's no lottery.
