Anti-foreign sport propaganda rally at the weekend, which drew the usual blanket media coverage. The best place to watch it is SSN, who place it last, showing it up for what it is, 30 farmers wrestling in a field whipped up in a parochial frenzy. It's cringeworthy hearing brits describe what's going on, trying to get their tongues round the players (and sometimes the county) names, when they can pronounce Russian, Serbian, and South American surnames in our sport perfectly.

In our sport, our failure to win the last series of games led to the usual soul searching. The 2 home goals we've scored in the qualifiers so far, is on par with giants such as Malta Andorra and Gibraltar, and still better than the mighty Latvia, Liechtenstein, Faroe Islands, and San Marino.

But amid all the mass wailing and gnashing of teeth, one thing struck me. What if there was no GAA around? Wouldn't we have more players? Better players? A better domestic league? More media coverage? More financial resources to invest in the domestic game at all levels? Other countries of similiar sizes don't have this issue hanging over them like a scar. While other sports are very popular (rugby, ice hockey, basketball, tennis) football is usually the most popular sport in the country. If it was here, surely we could have (or at least aspire to) more European and World Champions across our and other sports gaining worldwide recognition at Lords or Madison Square Garden or the Maracana or Ellis Park, rather than a bogballer whose sole ambition in lifeis to sweat blood and tears for a rust bucket in the back of a housing estate every September, and parade it in the back of a trailer outside Supermacs the night after.

You can't stop people wanting to play another sport. That's their choice. But what really needs addressing is the fact that the GAA gets a ludicrous amount of funding – and also the fact that the national broadcaster is essentially a propaganda machine for the GAA. Everyone with a bit of cop on can see that Gaelic Football is just 30 men stumbling around a field with a ball and very few rules. But RTE somehow manage to keep a straight face while talking up this utter fucking nonsense and declaring even the most boring and scrappy game to be somehow "epic" or "heroic" or such bullshit. We're competing with an organisation and accompanying journalists that make Goebbels look like a paragon of virtue and truth. That abject cunt Marty Morrissey should be taken out and stoned to death for starters.

Tells us little that we didn't already know but highlights (again!) how short sighted and clueless our governing body is
